Applications are invited for a motivated and experienced Chief Animal Technician to be part of a hard working team in a busy University Biomedical Service facility situated in south Cambridge.
The successful candidate will have a natural empathy with animals and commitment and dedication to animals in their care and supervise all aspects the daily care and husbandry routines for the animals in the facility. The role holder will support the Biofacility Manager and Deputy Biofacility Manager in the training of new and existing technicians with in-house policies and procedures, as well as working to Home Office regulations.
You will undertake both licenced and unlicensed scientific procedures along with daily husbandry and maintenance to assist the technicians as required. You are responsible for the maintenance of all necessary records, referring any issues and concerns as necessary. This will include the use of IVC technology, supervision of day to day husbandry, management of complex breeding schedules and colony management of genetically modified animals. Checking and recording environmental parameters and general condition of animals.
You will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, with experience supervising staff. You will have IAT Level 3 or equivalent (as a minimum), Home Office Licence modules A ¿ C and will be a Personal Licence holder. In depth experience of working within a biofacility is essential, as are excellent communication skills. You must be able to use a computerised data management system. Knowledge of relevant Home Office legislation is important, as is knowledge and experience in the principals of aseptic surgery and specialised breeding techniques.
