Service Technician (Barrier)

An opportunity has arisen for motivated Service Technician (Barrier) to join our friendly team within a busy Biofacility in South Cambridge.

The Service Technician (Barrier) provides a valuable service to ensure the smooth operation of the biomedical barrier and service areas within the facility. The role holder will maintain the essential provision of clean cages and equipment, consumables and other stock, portering of necessary caging, equipment and stock throughout the building, to meet the requirements of staff, and research users of the facility.

After initial training you will be able to operate simple machinery in order to prepare, clean, sterilise and maintain animal caging and associated equipment. You will complete general portering duties primarily the internal distribution of caging, equipment and scrubs to meet research requirements. You will also complete general cleaning and care of procedural areas, as well as replenishment of PPE and gowns as required, and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness throughout the barrier. You shall ensure the correct storage and disposal of all waste materials including clinical waste. The will involve some lifting and manual handling for which training will be given.

The successful candidate will be a motivated team player with good communication skills, literate, numerate and basic IT literacy are important. You will have good attention to detail, able to work in a clean and organised way, able to manage your own time and workload. Previous experience working with industrial cagewash / autoclave equipment, and an understanding of relevant Home Office regulations would be an advantage.
