A position exists for a Research Assistant/Research Associate in Photonic Devices and Optics, for 12 months with a potential to extend at the end of the period.
The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The role including the key responsibility and duty can be summarised as: research and design novel photonic devices in particular in the context of spatial light modulators including meta-structures and holography, as well as fabricate and characterise them for performance optimisation; compile and analyse quantitative and qualitative data, prepare reports and presents results to summarise main findings and conclusions; write journal articles on reveal research findings if possible; manage own research and administrative activities, with guidance if required; work in a team and provide support to other work when required; and may assist in the development of student research skills.
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: having obtained or being close to obtaining a PhD in a relevant specialist subject of photonics, optics, and/or optical engineering, and demonstrating the ability to perform key responsibilities and duties as described in above in the context of a strong publication record. Research experience in optical design and simulations is essential, and research and development experience in device fabrication as well as evaluating optical and overall performance of the designed and fabricated apparatus is desirable.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Research Assistant: £26,715 - £30,942
Research Associate: £32,816 - £40,322
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
