LEGO Cambridge PhD Studentship

The PEDAL Centre, with the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Education, is recruiting up to two PhD Studentships, commencing in October 2021. These are three-year full-time PhD studentships funded in full by the LEGO Foundation and Cambridge Trust.

The PEDAL Centre has a focus on the role of play in children's education, development and learning. It is a multidisciplinary centre with a wide range of research experiences available to postgraduate students. Supervision at the PEDAL Centre will come from Dr Sara Baker or Professor Paul Ramchandani. Paul Ramchandani's work focusses on the role of play in early child development. Sara Baker's work focusses on play's role in schools. More information can be found on our website:

All applicants for LEGO Foundation and Cambridge Trust funding will need to apply to the University by the funding deadline of 3 December 2020 specifying they wish to apply for the PhD in Education (Postgraduate Application Form on the Postgraduate Admissions page: Please upload your written statement as supporting documentation with your application.

The written statement should be no longer than 1,500 words (excluding references but including any tables and figures) and should propose a research topic focussed on play and consonant with the interests of at least one member of the supervisory team. In your written statement, address the following questions: What do you consider to be the key issues in the topic you have chosen? What research methods might be appropriate in answering research questions on this topic?

Please label your statement at the top 'LEGO Foundation & Cambridge Trust studentship written statement' listing Prof Ramchandani or Dr Baker as a potential supervisor, so it is clear you wish to apply for this source of funding.
