General Office Administrative Assistant (Part Time, Fixed Term)

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years.

Applications are invited for the position of General Office Administrative Assistant to provide administrative support for the Scott Polar Research Institute (SPRI). There are some 50 members of the Institute under the Director, including Senior Academic and Academic Related staff, Associates, Assistant staff, up to 20 PhD candidates and up to 12 MPhil students at any one time. There are also varying numbers of visiting academic staff, visitors to the library and archives and members of the general public visiting the museum. Administratively, SPRI is a sub-department of the Department of Geography which is part of the School of Physical Sciences.

We are looking for a well organised and enthusiastic person to take on this important role.

The post holder will provide administrative support to the Institute Administrator and support a wide range of administrative processes including HR and H&S related issues, events management, security, internal and external communications and assist the Graduate Admissions team with tasks associated with our MPhil and PhD students. The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, excellent organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to develop collaborative working relationships with a range of stakeholders. We are looking for someone with a flexible and adaptable 'can do' attitude to work, who has the ability to work with a high level of accuracy and to tight deadlines.
