The Department of Plant Sciences wishes to recruit a Digital Communication Coordinator to implement the Department's digital communications and outreach strategies. The post-holder will work as part of the Research Strategy Team, led by the Research Strategy Manager.
The Department has an international reputation for research with a consistent top research rating. These achievements have been built on a combination of recruitment of excellent scientists, generous philanthropic giving, and strategic investment by the University and School in initiatives which have leveraged funding from diverse sources. There is potential for further development and growth, if the current research achieves a higher profile. This will allow the Department to harness the synergies and value of the unique expertise across the Department, the living and herbarium collections, the new Crop Science Centre, and the Sainsbury Lab, for even more productive, impactful and world-leading collaborations.
A key feature of the role will be to develop a new online presence for the Department, aligned with the CambPlants Hub digital communication strategy to promote its achievements and activities, particularly through digital channels, and to ensure its leading position is communicated widely. The post-holder will also be responsible for improving the Department's outreach potential by increasing its visibility.
This is also a crucial role in supporting the long term development and success of the Department by contributing to its strategic planning, including the REF2021 submission, actions recommended by the 2019 Strategic Research Review report, leading its publicity activities, and fostering communication to develop projects to engage the Department's research community.
Applicants should have a degree level qualification in a relevant subject/Level 6 vocational qualification (or equivalent), and have experience of working with a range of communication channels and, most importantly, digital communication. Some experience of scientific or technical writing would be desirable. Excellent planning and organisational skills are essential, together with effective interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Applications are welcome from internal candidates who wish to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
