A position exists, for a part-time Research Assistant in Inclusive Design in the Department of Engineering (40%FTE, 14.8 hours per week), to help with creating and developing solutions to various solutions to design briefs that arise associated with the Inclusive Design group's promotion, sales and consulting activities within the Cambridge Engineering Design Centre.
The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The key responsibilities and duties are to develop solutions and solve problems to a variety of design briefs, which may involve printed materials and/or websites and/or physical prototyping.
The role will also involve generally assisting the groups' sales and consulting activities, which may include managing the sales of simulation gloves and glasses, testing software and handling feedback from the inclusive design toolkit website.
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: a first degree in any subject; understanding of HTML and CSS, ability to read and write HTML pages in plain text; familiarity with the Visual Basic Editor within Excel, Word and PowerPoint; vector graphics drawing skills in Illustrator, Inkscape, PowerPoint; experience in working with technical and commercial requirements and ability to work both alone and within teams and ability in problem solving are all essential. An attention to detail and an experience in using laser cutters would be beneficial.
Salary Range: Research Assistant: £26,715 - £30,942 pro rata
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 6 months in the first instance.
