Positions exists for three Research Assistants/Associates in the Department of Engineering to work on the Advanced Simulation and Modelling of Virtual Systems (ASiMoV) Project. ASiMoV is an EPSRC Prosperity Partnership between the universities of Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford and Warwick, and Rolls Royce plc. This five-year collaboration aims to deliver step changes in simulation technologies that will enable virtual certification of advanced engineering systems. Specific research challenges to be addressed by these posts include fast and robust multilevel solution methods, and contact modelling at extreme scale.
The post holders will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
Responsibilities of the post holders include research into new and robust numerical solution methods for complex engineering systems, analysis of methods, and the development, implementation and testing of scalable parallel algorithms on new and novel hardware. The post holders will be expected to work closely with other members of the ASiMoV team in Cambridge and in the wider partnership. Opportunities exist to spend extended periods at partner institutions.
The successful candidates will have experience in the development and implementation of advanced methods for solving differential equations or in the development and implementation of algorithms for new and emerging architectures. Contributions to the development of scientific software projects and experience with parallel computing is an advantage. An ability to communicate and work effectively within a team is essential. Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in engineering, applied mathematics, physics, or related discipline. Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
