We are seeking to recruit a full time Post-Doctoral Research Assistant/Associate in Geotechnical Engineering for a period of up to 12 months, ending no later than 30/06/2021.
The successful candidate will be based at the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure in Construction (CSIC: https://www-smartinfrastructure.eng.cam.ac.uk/) and will work on experimentally exploring the breakout resistance of partially buried subsea cables for offshore wind turbines, in sand.
The role will entail: (i) the development of full-scale experiments in the laboratory; (ii) the development of a prototype cable shape sensing device using Rayleigh backscatter fibre-optic equipment; and (iii) contribution to the supervision of an MRes student numerically simulating the problem.
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: - Knowledge of laboratory experimental methods in geomechanics - Knowledge of distributed fibre optic sensing applications to geomechanics - Good writing and presentation skills - Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills - Good time management skills - A strong work ethic and a positive attitude are essential - Strong background in laboratory experimental work, instrumentation, data acquisition and data interpretation in geotechnical engineering or related field - Track record of authoring high quality academic publications
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,715 - £30,942 Research Associate: £32,816 - £40,322
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for a period of up to 12 months or until 30 June 2021 in the first instance.
