We are seeking to employ a Research Assistant/Associate with a background in either political or computer science to join our team of risk researchers within the Centre for Risk Studies at Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge. This role would be working on a project on Developing and Monitoring Cyber Terrorism and Geopolitical Risks. The field of cyber terrorism contains many unknowns and is yet to be well established, though there is considerable interest from political and industry parties to understand the threat before it arrives. The successful candidate will be instrumental in contributing to this understanding and crucial preparation process.
The purpose of this role is to develop tools and the capability to understand the developing risk of cyber terrorism, and to develop metrics to further quantify the risk of terror events, beyond our current industry sector and company size categorisations. The role holder will use various techniques to estimate vulnerability and the potential impacts of cyber terrorism to organisations. In addition, they will contribute to the development of at least two catastrophe scenarios over the course of the coming year.
You should be educated to postgraduate or PhD degree level in a relevant specialist subject, for example, political theory, computer science, terrorism and political violence, international relations, history or engineering. You should have strong communication and qualitive skills, as well as an interest in the field and synthesising past research experience with either cyber or geopolitical threat analysis to create an innovative new approach to diagnosing future perils. We are looking for someone who is driven, committed and can demonstrate initiative and self-motivation, as well as good time management and planning skills. Previous project management experience would be advantageous.
