Executive Director of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative

"There are few things more important in the world today than what you are doing here." Sir David Attenborough

The Cambridge Conservation Initiative (CCI) is transforming the global understanding and conservation of biodiversity and the natural capital it represents in order to secure a sustainable future for all life on Earth. As a unique partnership among leaders in biodiversity conservation research, education, policy and action, CCI has become one of the world's largest clusters of conservation organisations and scholars, developing new approaches to facilitate interdisciplinary, cross institutional collaboration that fosters new thinking, ideas and solutions for biodiversity conservation. We already have an impressive list of achievements, including: the creation of a Conservation Campus in the David Attenborough Building, the seeding over 60 innovative collaborative projects, establishing a Masters Programme in Conservation Leadership and the design and implementation of large scale innovative conservation programmes, such as the Europe wide Endangered Landscapes Programme. As one of the most interesting and worthwhile roles in international biodiversity conservation, we have the unique opportunity for you to join us as CCI's Executive Director, where you will drive the next phase of collaboration to achieve transformational outcomes for biodiversity conservation at local, national and global levels.

As the Executive Director at the University of Cambridge, you will be responsible for taking forward the shared vision, overseeing the setting of strategy and governance systems and optimising the collaboration between each of the individual partners. You will be the public face of the CCI, championing the initiative at the highest national and international levels and will play a vital role in positioning the CCI as a distinctive and valuable partner, whilst fostering new links with other institutions (e.g. Universities, UN agencies, the business and development communities and other conservation organisations). With the support of the staff in the Executive Director's office, you will also facilitate the development and implementation of large CCI collaborative programmes that will deliver a positive and tangible global impact for biodiversity.

With broad experience from conservation policy/practice, academic research or capacity development, you will join us with a track record of managing strategic development in complex organisations and the ability to develop innovative collaborations. You will also be able to demonstrate your ability to create and nurture partnerships across disciplines, institutions and sectors (public and private) and to engage with national and international decision making fora. A demonstrable track record in large-scale fundraising will also be essential to your success in this role as we will look to you to deliver on the CCI's fundraising strategy, leading approaches to philanthropists, foundations, trusts and other donors.
