Portfolio Manager (Business Systems)


Are you looking for an opportunity to make a considerable contribution to Professional Services at one of the world's leading Universities? Do you have experience in Finance and/or HR transformation, ERP/cloud implementation, people change management & service adoption?

We are looking for an experienced IT delivery professional to join us as a Portfolio Manager to oversee a newly-created Business Systems portfolio. You'll lead and facilitate work to define and deliver IT services, programme and projects covering HR, Finance, Estates, Legal, and other services. There are currently no active programmes in the Business Systems Portfolio; it's anticipated that major HR and finance transformation programmes will start to take shape during the coming academic year, and you'll contribute your knowledge and experience to enable these initiatives to be successful.

Prior experience as a Portfolio Manager is not essential, but you will at a minimum have strong experience in Programme and Project Management. You'll be familiar with service management, and a key part of the role will be helping University stakeholders guide UIS in investing people and money in the right balance of projects and services in support of the University's mission.

You'll be an excellent communicator able to build strong delivery-focussed relationships, and someone adept at balancing structure and governance with empowering teams to deliver. You will work with senior stakeholders across the University such as the Directors of HR and Finance, the University's Registrary and other senior staff to evaluate and prioritise the investment in systems and staff supporting key professional services areas.

You'll have a passion for the people side of change, and for coaching and helping organisations prepare for and navigate difficult changes. Cambridge is a complex environment with a highly devolved organisational structure, and patchy change management skills and experience. To help counterbalance this, you'll be adept at influencing and problem solving in a consensus-based organisation where successful outcomes are as dependent on organisational support and change as on the technology that we deliver.

This position is based in the Delivery Management Office (DMO) within University Information Services (UIS). UIS provides University-wide Information Technology services for both the academic and professional services activities of the University of Cambridge.
