HR Advisor [Temporary Cover] (Secondment) Internal Secondment Opportunity


The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CEB) wishes to recruit an HR Advisor.

The role-holder will be required to deliver a comprehensive HR service, including advice on best practice, case-work, HR Management and other HR activities associated with driving forward the Departmental HR plan. This will include HR projects such as Athena SWAN.

The role-holder will support the CEB Senior Management Team by playing an active role in the preparation of the Departmental HR plan at both strategic and operational levels. They will be responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of an effective Human Resources strategy to be rolled out across the department. The remit of the role includes recruitment and retention, learning & development, employee relations (including casework) and performance management. The role holder will also identify and implement strategic initiatives in order to enhance the HR service delivery and fulfil departmental needs. Particular focus is given to providing direction, support and guidance to senior managers and managers over the full range of HR-related matters.

The successful candidate must have a good education to degree level standard or equivalent and possess up-to-date and comprehensive knowledge of employment law. They will have significant experience of working professionally in an operational, generalist HR role and will possess a high level of diplomacy and ability to work appropriately with highly confidential information. The role holder must demonstrate an ability to successfully negotiate and influence both managers and staff and make informed decisions.

Ideally the role-holder will be part or fully CIPD qualified with experience of working in a similar HE environment with University HR systems.
