A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on developing message passing algorithms for wireless communication systems. The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The project is funded by Huawei Technologies, and the key responsibilities and duties are: i) to develop novel approximate message passing algorithms for detection in multi-antenna wireless receivers, and ii) to design algorithms for joint symbol detection and decoding (with LDPC codes).
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role include a strong analytical background, and expertise in communications, information theory, or statistical signal processing. Familiarity with the design and analysis of message passing algorithms is desirable. The researcher will work closely with the Principal Investigator, but will be expected to plan and manage their own research activity. Results of the work will be written up in the form of reports, conference papers or journal articles, as appropriate.
The successful candidate will have obtained, or be close to obtaining a PhD, in communications, information theory, statistical signal processing, or a related area. In exceptional cases, candidates with a Master's degree may be considered if they have research experience closely aligned with the topic of the project (message passing algorithms and wireless communications). It is expected that applicants will have a good knowledge of a programming language such as Matlab, Python, or C++. Applicants should exhibit good oral and written communication skills, and have experience of managing their own workload.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
