Context: The lab of Professor Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz (http://www.pdn.cam.ac.uk/zernickagoetzlab/) studies self-organisation and symmetry breaking processes in the mammalian embryo using embryos and stem cells as two major model systems.
We are looking for a dedicated post-doctoral researcher to investigate mechanisms of self-organisation and pattern formation during early development. The lab applies high-resolution time-lapse imaging and quantitative analysis together with techniques for uncovering and modulating gene expression.
Recently the lab developed unique methods for culturing mouse and human embryos that recapitulate the main events occurring during implantation (e.g. Bedzhov and Zernicka-Goetz, Cell 2014; Harrison et al., Science 2017; Shahbazi et al, Nature, 2017) to study morphogenesis and the interactions between stem cell populations as the embryo is built.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in stem cell biology, developmental biology or biophysics (or about to be awarded a PhD). Following skills are important: Developmental and cell biology, High-resolution live embryo microscopy; Image analysis and model building.
