We are seeking to appoint a Finance and Research Administrator to join the administrative team in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics.
As the primary contact for all finance matters, the successful candidate will play a key role in the Department's financial management as well as the administration of research grants (pre- and post-award). The role holder will work closely with the Departmental Administrator in reviewing finances and providing the Head of Department with management information to support strategic decision-making.
This established post would be suitable for an all-rounder with experience of account management and research grants processes and systems. Excellent inter-personal skills are vital to be able to work well with academic and research staff/students as well as part of the small but friendly administration team. Attention to detail, good negotiation and problem-solving skills are also essential, as is the ability to use initiative and prioritise efficiently, while working to tight deadlines. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing staff involved with supporting financial processes.
Applicants should be educated to at least A-level or equivalent with AAT qualifications or equivalent practical experience. Significant experience of working in an accounts environment, ideally gained in the higher education or public sector, excellent numeracy and IT skills (Excel, working knowledge of accounting computer packages and research grant application tools) are essential. Experience with CUFS or a similar Oracle-based finance system would be advantageous as would experience with X5 or similar costing tool; however training can be provided.
