As part of a new two year Innovate UK funded grant, "Agile Quantum Safe Communications (AQuaSec)", a two-year Research Assistant or Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available. This position, based in the Semiconductor Physics Group at the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge, will involve close collaborations with researchers at Toshiba Research Europe Limited and the University of Sheffield, within the consortium comprising 19 UK partners working in the quantum communication field. The project's aim is to develop prototypes for quantum-safe encryption on optical communication networks to safe-guard the long-term secrecy of information.
The Semiconductor Physics Group in the Department of Physics has an extensive track record in the development of underpinning solid-state quantum communication technologies. It is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories for molecular beam epitaxy, semiconductor device fabrication and metrology, cryogenic electrical and NIR optical device characterisation. We seek a researcher who will primarily undertake the fabrication of the underpinning state-of-the-art semiconductor quantum dot single photon sources and InGaAs avalanche photodiode detectors for the project.
The researcher should have a either a degree or equivalent experience (Grade 5) or PhD (Grade 7) in Physics, Engineering, Material Science or a related discipline. Experience in semiconductor device processing and characterisation is essential. Experience in III-V semiconductor processing, semiconductor metrology (e.g. SEM, AFM, etc) and ability to trouble shoot and maintain mechanical and electrical systems would be an advantage.
