Applications are invited for the position of Arctic Information Specialist in the library of the Scott Polar Research Institute. The role holder will be responsible for the development of Arctic collections including those in the Russian language to support research and teaching. This will involve selection and cataloguing of books on the Arctic including Russian language books and other materials. The role holder liaises with academic staff and researchers to understand their needs and to guide the long-term direction of the Arctic collections. He or she promotes the Arctic collections to a wide range of stakeholders, which include the Ministry of Defence and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
Candidates should have previous experience in an academic or research library and a good knowledge of the Russian language. Excellent IT skills and experience of cataloguing to MARC21 and RDA standards using computerised cataloguing and retrieval systems are also required. You should be enthusiastic and adaptable, with good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate should be able to adhere to and give routine advice on copyright and to take responsibility for defined projects.
Candidates should have attained an honours degree. Having a qualification in Librarianship or information science or be working towards one is also desirable.
This position is offered on a full time basis (36.5 hours per week) though part time working will also be considered.
Fixed-term: The post is funded until 31st July 2023 in the first instance.
