Research Assistant (Part Time)


Applications are invited for a part-time research assistant to work with Professor David C. Rubinsztein and Dr Angeleen Fleming. The post will be based in the zebrafish research group.

Applicants should have a biological sciences degree and/or have previously held a laboratory technician or research assistant post. The post holder will be responsible for some aspects of lab management including ordering reagents and consumables, stock control, managing plasmid and antibody databases.

In addition, the post involves assisting in the management of the zebrafish colony (PCR genotyping and identifying transgenic lines using fluorescent microscopy) and will also include some day-to-day laboratory house-keeping duties.

This is a part-time role at 40% FTE (approximately 15 hours/week) and days/hours worked are flexible.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.

Funding for this position is currently available until 6th December 2020.

The full incremental salary range for the position is advertised in order to demonstrate the progression of the Grade. In the majority of case appointments will be made at the Grade minimum: only in very specific circumstances can a higher salary be offered.
