Project: Learning Partner for the Leaders in Teaching Initiative in sub-Saharan Africa, funded by Mastercard Foundation
The Research for Equitable Access and Learning (REAL) Centre within the Faculty of Education wishes to appoint a Senior Research Associate (SRA) to generate rigorous (quantitative and qualitative) evidence that will be used to feedback and inform the continued design and implementation of the Leaders in Teaching Initiative, launched by The Mastercard Foundation in Rwanda in 2018. The Initiative aims to support the entire life-cycle of secondary school teachers in Rwanda (and other countries in the future), from recruitment, through to training, teacher motivation and educational leadership.
The postholder will work with colleagues in the REAL Centre on the project, in collaboration with our partner in Rwanda, Laterite, and the funder, the Mastercard Foundation. The expectation is that the role will be involved in preparation of developing a theory of change for the partnership, the research design, data analysis, writing of co-authored publications, and research project management. They will also be closely engaged with day-to-day planning with Laterite colleagues based in Rwanda, as well as with Leaders in Teaching partners and the funder. They will also be involved in preparing proposals for further related funding, including extending the work to other countries in sub-Saharan Africa. The role is likely to involve travel to Rwanda and potentially other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
The successful candidate will work with the Principal Investigator, Professor Pauline Rose, Co-Investigators, Dr Ricardo Sabates and Dr Nidhi Singal, other research associates/assistants on the projects and the project administrator.
This is a senior role with high levels of responsibility to ensure the smooth running of the project. Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant subject area with previous postdoctoral experience; have proven skills in quantitative and qualitative research; evidence of ability to prepare publications for peer-reviewed journals; experience of research project management, and of managing research staff. A broad-based understanding of educational research and research methods related to policy issues, including in international development contexts is desirable.
Appointment at Senior Research Associate level is subject to approval by the Faculty Board of Education.
