Seeking expressions of interest - Principal Investigator in Design and Analysis of Randomised Trials, MRC Biostatistics Unit at the University of Cambridge

A position is available for a senior scientist to lead a programme of research within the broad areas of statistical methodology for clinical trials within the University of Cambridge's MRC Biostatistics Unit. The position comes with an attractive research funding package that will be renewable every 5 years. The University of Cambridge will appoint the post holder to a research position at the level appropriate to the career stage of the successful applicant.

The MRC Biostatistics Unit is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions. Our focus is to deliver new analytical and computational strategies based on sound statistical principles for the challenging tasks facing biomedicine and public health.

The Unit's research is grouped around four themes: (i) Statistical Omics (SOMX), (ii) Precision Medicine and Inference for Complex Outcomes (PREM), (iii) Design and Analysis of Randomised Trials (DART), and (iv) Statistical methods Using data Resources to improve Population Health (SURPH). Full details of the themes can be found at

We seek expressions of interest from scientists who wish to pursue an internationally leading programme of research. The new programme would synergise with the current research interests of the Design and Analysis of Randomised Trials (DART) theme, which aims to broaden the current research in novel trial design in areas such as, but not exclusively, compliance, causal analysis, missing data, electronic health records or wearables.

The successful applicant will receive a flexible funding package to establish a new team, in addition to research operating costs and set-up funding. They will also have the opportunity to secure excellent PhD students with access to the Unit's established fully-funded PhD programme, while postdoctoral group staff will benefit from the University of Cambridge's extensive career development training portfolio.

The Unit is situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, one of the world's most vibrant centres of biomedical research, which includes the University of Cambridge's Clinical School, two major hospitals, the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, and the world headquarters of Astra Zeneca.

We seek expressions of interest from scientists at stages of career equivalent to Reader/Associate Professor through to Full Professor level. Informal enquiries to Sylvia Richardson, Unit Director ( are welcome.

Interested parties should send a 1-2 page expression of interest and a copy of their curriculum vitae to Andrea Wadeson (

The Unit is actively seeking to increase diversity among its staff, including promoting an equitable representation of men and women.
