Public Engagement Coordinator (Fixed Term)

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for two years in the first instance

Public engagement with research helps to build transparency, trust and understanding around research with external audiences. It inspires future generations and develops the skills of researchers in communication and engagement.

Located within the Public Engagement team in the Office of External Affairs and Communications, this role will work in collaboration with the Research Strategy Office to support projects at the University to develop excellence in public engagement with research.

The role holder will advise and brief senior University leaders on the direction of institutional strategy relating to public engagement with research. To do this, they will liaise with, and understand the expectations of, some of the University's principal funding bodies, as well as interest groups such as the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement.

The role holder will draw on an impressive level of expertise to create training and best practice packages for public engagement practitioners, research staff and students across the University's six academic Schools. In addition to this, they will develop ways to disseminate information on public engagement activity, organise an annual public engagement with research awards scheme, and an annual public engagement conference.

The role holder will also provide high-quality administrative support to the Public Engagement Advisory Group, shaping agendas with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, drafting discussion papers for the group, as well as undertaking more straightforward secretarial duties.
