The University Information Services (UIS) is seeking to appoint a Chief Operating Officer. We are looking for an experienced manager with an established reputation in managing the operation of a large IT organisation within a complex environment. UIS provides the digital infrastructure at the heart of the University's world-leading education and research. This includes delivering the IT applications and systems that support 12,000 staff and over 20,000 students and researchers. Reporting to the COO are eight Heads of Division, covering Departmental Operations; Large Systems; Development and Operations; Infrastructure; User Experience; Delivery Management; Research Computing Services (incorporating the fastest academic high-performance computer in the UK); and Institutional Relations.
Working closely with the UIS Director, whose focus is on long term strategic issues, the COO will provide operational leadership for a team of 300 staff, largely IT professionals. UIS also works in partnership with IT staff across the University with the aim of developing a more cohesive and collaborative community of IT professionals. The main focus for our new COO will be on operational issues including the development and implementation of a UIS target operating model.
The successful candidate will be a credible leader evidenced by a successful track record of managing the delivery of IT services in a large and complex organisation. They will be an excellent change agent with highly developed interpersonal skills and have the ability to influence key internal and external stakeholders.
