Applications are invited for a Drosophila Microinjection Technician position in the Fly Facility at the Department of Genetics (www.flyfacility.gen.cam.ac.uk). The facility provides support for the Drosophila research community, including a microinjection service that is used by numerous fly groups across the UK and beyond. The Microinjection Technician will play an important role in delivering and developing the microinjection service, at a time when Drosophila genetics is undergoing revolutionary developments.
The post-holder will work closely with other facility staff to provide a high quality microinjection service. They will inject insect embryos as requested by facility users, and will perform post-injection work including screening for transformants and building transformant stocks. In addition, the post-holder will contribute to other Drosophila project work ongoing in the facility. As a member of the Fly Facility team, they will also be expected to provide support for the other facility services during staff absence or periods of exceptional demand.
The successful candidate will have a degree in biological sciences, familiarity with working in a research environment, and a good working knowledge of genetics, molecular biology and transgenics. Knowledge of Drosophila genetics and microinjection procedures would be desirable, but is not essential, as appropriate training will be provided.
