Research Associate (Fixed Term)

The Markowetz and Caldas labs at the CRUK Cambridge Institute are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work on projects to integrate genomic profiles of patients with information from radiology and (histo)pathology to gain comprehensive portraits of tumours leading to better diagnosis and prognosis. While genomic analyses are well established, there is a need to develop better image analysis approaches for problems like cell and tissue segmentation and prediction of clinical variables.

The position is part of a well-established collaboration and will have access to large amounts of data collected for example in the METABRIC project and the Cambridge Personalised Breast Cancer Programme. This is an outstanding opportunity for a researcher from outside the cancer field to get trained in cutting-edge biomedical techniques and approaches.

The ideal candidate has a PhD in a quantitative field (physics, mathematics, statistics, computer science etc) and experience in image analysis and computer vision. Expertise in deep learning and statistics are desired. Previous experience in cancer research is a plus, but not required. This is a very interdisciplinary project and excellent communication skills are key.

The post is full-time but applications are welcome from those who would like to work flexibly.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility of extension to 3 years. The salary depends on the level of experience.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check.
