The Department of Chemistry is seeking an experienced hands-on technician to join our Mass Spectrometry team providing a mass spectrometry service to internal and external academics and companies. You will be required to maintain a high standard of performance of the mass spectrometers within the facility and be responsible for line managing a technician.
Duties will include supporting the high performance of the cutting-edge mass spectrometers within the facility, technical upkeep and routine trouble-shooting, liaising with engineers from outside companies to maintain the standard of the instruments, and providing an accurate mass service and acquiring mass spectra of chemical compounds for researchers within the Department and external institutions.
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent with a wealth of knowledge in mass spectrometry and be proficient in using a range of mass spectrometry techniques for our world class research groups (e.g. LCMS,GCMS, Direct injection ESI, MALDI, ASAP and HDX). Expertise in maintaining mass spectrometers is critical and highly important for this position. Being able to demonstrate a flexible attitude to work is essential, as is having good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills. Candidates must also be able to deal with a wide range of people at all levels, have the ability to make decisions, plan and organise work requirements whilst working under pressure and prioritise daily workloads.
