Departmental Finance Administrator

The University of Cambridge, Department of Physics is seeking to recruit an experienced Finance Administrator to join an established finance team.

The Department has over 400 academic, academic-related, research and support staff organised into 15 research areas, 3 administrative Hubs, and 10 support sections. The role holder is based in the finance section which has frequent contact with a broad spectrum of members within the Department and other University bodies.

The role offers enormous variety. Responsibilities include assisting the department's administration in management of departmental finances, routine and ad-hoc financial reporting, and provision of finance training. The role holder will be responsible for the finance intranet content and communications. There are also cashiering duties for our in-house common room.

You will be expected to work proactively with Hubs, Research Groups and Departmental budget holders, and to develop strong and effective working relationships to ensure that processes are effective and appropriately managed. The successful candidate will be highly numerate, analytical and proficient in standard software packages, particularly Excel. Good interpersonal and communication skills are required, including the ability to effectively explain financial procedures to non finance staff, displaying tact and diplomacy at all times.

The Cavendish Laboratory is looking forward to further major developments, including planning for a new building within the next 4 years. There is therefore likely to be scope for involvement in other projects and aspects of the Department's activity following the initial years after appointment.
