A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the Digital Twin project funded by the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB) and the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC). The Research Assistant/Associate will work with the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory (DIAL) at the Institute for Manufacturing. One of the key areas of focus for the project is the development of key value-adding applications to demonstrate how a dynamic digital twin model of the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) and the West Cambridge campus can work and its impact on facilities management and wider productivity and well-being The researcher will examine how data from different sources (e.g., building management systems, sensors, asset management systems) can be brought together to improve organisational performance through improved service assurance and enhancing organisational capabilities. The researcher will also be expected to drive sensor deployments and integrating such sensor data with the digital model of the building. In addition, the researcher will be expected to contribute to other research projects and activities within DIAL and CSIC.
The post holder will be located at the Institute for Manufacturing, 17 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The researcher's expertise will include data analysis, machine learning, reliability engineering, predictive maintenance, sensor deployment in the context of infrastructure asset management. Appreciation and knowledge in Building Information Modelling and cloud data management is desirable.
Applicants will have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or relevant discipline.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £25,728 - £30,688 Research Associate: £31,604 - £38,833
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
