Applications are invited for a Service Desk Technician to join the Service Desk Team within the Clinical School Computing Service (CSCS). We are one of the largest IT departments at the University of Cambridge and provide IT services across all the Clinical School departments and other departments within the University (approximately 3000 staff, 2200 supported systems).
Our busy Service Desk is responsible for resolving a wide variety of issues reaching far beyond a typical support desk. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to work with second and third line support staff and on departmental projects. As well as providing excellent opportunities for career development, CSCS aims for all staff to go on a formal training course at least once a year.
The successful candidate will have experience in providing user support in a Windows domain environment (Mac and Linux experience is a plus), troubleshooting issues and proactively looking for ways to improve our user experience. Applicants are expected to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills plus a genuine interest in helping users solve their IT problems. Candidates are expected to be educated to a minimum of A level standard (or equivalent) and hold GCSE passes in Maths and English (grades A - C). A degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage, but an equivalent level of skill and knowledge gained 'on the job' would be equally valued.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance.
