Research Associate x 2 (Fixed Term) (Chalut Lab)

The Institute is a world-leading centre for stem cell research with a mission to transform human health through a deep understanding of stem and progenitor cell biology (http://www.stemcells.cam.ac.uk) and is supported by the Wellcome and the Medical Research Council.

The Chalut lab's aim to understand (1) the fundamental mechanisms by stem cells undergo state transitions; and (2) how mechanical signalling is involved in those transitions. The lab uses a combination of diverse approaches, including stem cell biology, physical biology, quantitative modelling, microfluidics and micropatterning, molecular biology, genetic manipulation and imaging to understand the mechanisms of cell fate choice.

We are looking for two research associates with a proactive and flexible attitude to join a European Research Council (ERC) funded research project to illuminate the "Physical biology of pluripotency and differentiation".

There is no requirement for this candidate to have previous experience in physics or biotechnology. For the second post, the ideal candidate has a background in biotechnology who wants to apply their expertise to stem cell biology. Specifically, we are seeking researchers motivated to use and/or develop tools based in microfluidics, micropatterning and hydrogel substrates to probe cell fate choice. Candidates with experience in biophysics, quantitative biology or proteomics are also encouraged to apply. Some experience with either stem cell biology or developmental biology is strongly recommended. It is also of the utmost importance that the candidate is highly collaborative for this multidisciplinary project.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
