Research Assistant - Histopathology/In Situ Hybridisation Core Facility

The Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute (CRUK CI) is a department of the University of Cambridge and has the specific goal to harness the scientific strengths of Cambridge to solve problems encountered with the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of cancer.

The Histopathology/ISH Core Facility offers a variety of histological techniques, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridisation, laser capture microdissection, as well as automatic slide digitisation and analysis to CRUK CI scientists.

We are now looking to recruit a highly motivated Research Assistant to join our team of eleven and contribute to the achievements of our Core Facility. This is a general histopathology role which will include scanning tissue sections, immunohistochemistry, routine histopathological processing of paraffin and frozen samples, as well as conducting the sectioning of these blocks through to routine H&E and special staining. In addition, the role holder will be expected to carry out digital scanning of facility slides and take part in the immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridisation rotas.

The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a team environment, provide help to other members of the team, and contribute to a positive atmosphere in the laboratory. They will possess excellent communication and customer service skills, and have the ability to deal confidently and diplomatically with a range of personalities and staff at all levels of seniority. Attention to detail, organisation and significant experience in histology are essential. Knowledge or experience of manual or automated IHC, in situ hybridisation and tissue microarrays would be beneficial. The candidate will have a Biomedical Science degree or equivalent experience.
