Applications are invited for the post of Secretariat Supervisor in the Department of Biochemistry.
The Department of Biochemistry is a member of the School of the Biological Sciences and one of the largest departments in the University of Cambridge. The Department is housed in several buildings in central Cambridge.
It has a highly active research and teaching programme. Excellence in these activities is underpinned by a technical and administrative support structure. Reporting to the Administrative Officer, this role is central to the provision of that administrative support.
The role-holder's primary function is to supervise, and be a part of, the departmental Secretariat which provides a broad range of administrative and secretarial services to the Department. As well as managing their own work load, the role holder is responsible for the timetabling and assignment of duties to other members of the secretariat and ensure that the Reception areas within departmental buildings are manned. For secretariat staff the role-holder is responsible for their recruitment, induction, training and performance management.
Additionally, the role holder will be responsible for the arrangement and budgetary control of key departmental events and act as Secretary to the IT Committee and other committees as required.
This is a varied role and it is essential that the candidate demonstrates a flexible and adaptable approach to accommodate the varying aspects of the post; the ability to effectively prioritise tasks; management of both their own and the team workload and working to deadlines.
