The Careers Service has two current vacancies for a Careers Adviser, both starting in September 2018:-
A 13-month fixed-term contract role, advising our undergraduate and postgraduate students across all degree disciplines, offering advice on careers in the consultancy, business, entrepreneurial sectors and in arts and heritage.
A permanent role, serving both our students (undergraduates and postgraduates) and PostDoctoral Research Staff, with a strong focus on the STEM subjects.
Both roles attract a FTE salary of £39,992 to £50,618 per annum, and are offered as either full-time posts, or at 80% FTE: to be agreed with the successful applicants.
The University of Cambridge Careers Service serves all 21,000 postgraduate and undergraduate students in all subjects, in all years, offering information and advice covering all career sectors. We also serve the majority of our junior Postdoctoral Research staff. Over 15,000 students and 3,000 Postdocs are engaged with the Service and we work with over 3,000 organisations, running careers events and promoting their opportunities. Our advice and guidance entails helping students and researchers to identify opportunities, make well-informed decisions about career choice, make effective applications and succeed at interview.
Each of these two Careers Adviser roles will focus on supporting career choice in the areas summarized above, both in the UK and abroad. In addition to working with students, researchers and alumni, an important part of the role will involve liaising with a wide variety of organisations active in recruiting at the University, including other research-led Universities worldwide for those establishing their career in academia.
Applicants for both roles should be confident and articulate and have empathy for, and experience of working with, bright, ambitious students and researchers of exceptional ability. First-hand experience of delivering workshops and providing effective student-based careers advice would be highly desirable as would direct experience in any of the sectors mentioned above. While ideally seeking an experienced adviser, the Service would also be prepared to consider well-qualified applicants with first-hand experience in the relevant sectors seeking to gain experience in careers guidance or looking to move into this career from an academic or recruiting background.
The closing date for applications is the end of Sunday 1st July 2018. Interviews will be conducted in Cambridge on Thursday 19th July and Tuesday 24th July.
