A vacancy has arisen for an EU Research Training Network Manager to take the leading role in managing a European Research Training Network in Directed Protein Evolution for Synthetic Biology and Biocatalysis (ES-Cat - https://www.bioc.cam.ac.uk/hollfelder/Research/es-cat).
The role which will be based in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge involves scientific coordination of research training projects, dealing with contacts at all levels, both within and outside of the university, organisation of training events, workshops and summer schools and leading the reporting of project results. In addition to acting as liaison between the network partners throughout Europe and at the European Commission, you will provide general support to the Co-ordinator and his group within the department, including management of the funding of the network (approx. €3.8 million each), coordination of scientific visits, recruitment of young researchers. The ability to work independently with self-motivation and to take initiative is key to being successful in this role that carries considerable responsibility.
The ideal candidate will have a university degree in Chemistry of Biology (or other relevant areas) and doctoral and postdoctoral experience in research projects in these areas. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and a flexible approach to work. Good IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and possibly website design programmes) will be essential. The ability to work independently and to take initiative is absolutely crucial, given the varied tasks the appointee will be involved in. The position is available from mid July 2018.
