Research Study Assistant ×2 (Fixed Term, Part Time) (0.5 FTE)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two Research Study Assistants to play an important role in supporting the department's research into physical activity promotion. The MRC Epidemiology Unit is a department within the Clinical School at the University of Cambridge which studies the genetic, developmental and environmental factors that cause obesity, diabetes and related metabolic disorders and contributes to the prevention of these disorders. The MRC Epidemiology Unit also hosts the UKCRC Centre for Diet and Activity Research (CEDAR), a Centre of Excellence in Public Health Research focusing on developing understanding about the population-level determinants of dietary and physical activity behaviours and on evaluating interventions that impact on these behaviours.

We are seeking to appoint two Research Study Assistants to work on an NIHR family-focused but child led project where the intervention is delivered via an online platform.
The Families Reporting Every Step to Health (FRESH) study is a randomised controlled trial, aiming to increase physical activity and connectivity within families by encouraging them to be active together. Further information about the study can be found here: www.cedar.iph.cam.ac.uk/research/directory/fresh. The project began the Pilot phase in early 2018. These posts will involve supporting recruitment to the pilot study and conducting follow up measurement visits with families living in Norfolk and Suffolk.

The role holders will work across the Field Epidemiology, Study Coordination and Physical Activity Technical teams. The majority of the work will be conducting Physical Activity and Anthropometric measurements among children and their families; this fieldwork will take place in family homes. In addition, they will be responsible for providing support for the completion of research questionnaires. A significant amount of administrative tasks will be involved in these roles.

The successful candidates will have a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, or have GCSEs in Maths and English, A-Level in a Science related subject (or equivalent) and relevant practical experience. Alongside this we are looking for candidates to have good proven communication skills and an interest in working with families. This is an excellent opportunity to work with internationally leading researchers in a key supporting role.

This is a fixed term contract for 4 months with an ideal start date of August 2018.
