An exciting opportunity has arisen for motivated and experienced Animal Technician to join our dynamic, hardworking, and committed team in a busy Institute situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the care and welfare of small rodent cancer models housed within the facility, carrying out licensed procedures upon successful completion of competency and will help support the Facility Manager and NTCO towards training new and junior technicians with in-house policies and procedures. This will include the use of IVC technology, breeding and maintenance of genetically modified animals. Part of the role will be checking and recording environmental parameters and the general condition of animals. The role holder will understand typical and non-typical phenotypes and breeding behaviours so can advise licence holders on potential adverse effects and new phenotypes.
The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and as part of a dedicated team and will ideally hold or be working towards the Institute of Animal Technology qualification (level 2) together with appropriate animal technology and laboratory experience.
The unit operates a rota system to provide cover at weekends and Bank Holidays. The candidate will therefore be required to work outside of normal working hours.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.
