Applications are invited for a Research Assistant / Research Associate to study the implications of business model innovation on productivity resulting from the adoption of digital technologies. The post holder will work within the Business Model Innovation Research Group (BMI Group) and related research groups at the Institute for Manufacturing within the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering .
The researcher will focus on conducting historical and longitudinal analysis of firms that have implemented digital technologies in order to learn and develop the criteria for productivity measurement from business model innovation. This will include analysis from publicly available historical data as well as proprietary firm level data for a number of selected sectors such as manufacturing, distribution and the sharing economy. The researcher will also be part of a team to develop the requirements for management information systems that will identify business model innovation opportunities following the adoption of digital technologies.
The successful applicant will have expertise in econometric methods and related statistical analysis as well as a knowledge of the challenges of adopting digital technologies and innovation management. Applicants who have experience and appreciation of conducting interviews with senior management and qualitative research methods are desirable. Applications are invited from candidates who have (or are close to obtaining) a PhD in economics, management, engineering or related disciplines. Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level in the first instance, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
Salary range: Research Assistant: £25,728 - £30,688 Research Associate: £31,604 - £38,833
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 36 months in the first instance.
