The Bennett Institute for Public Policy invites applications for two post-doctoral Research Associate posts to work on some of the major challenges facing policy-makers today. Applications are welcome from candidates with backgrounds in the social sciences or in other relevant disciplines. We welcome applicants who have experience of working in the policy world.
The Bennett Institute for Public Policy is a brand-new, multi-disciplinary research centre committed to producing world-leading research on policy questions in the age of disruption. It is based at the University of Cambridge, and housed within the Department for Politics & International Studies, and is led by its inaugural Director Professor Michael Kenny and Professor Diane Coyle, the Bennett Chair of Public Policy.
The Research Associates will work on some of the major challenges arising in public policy today, including: the determinants and measurement of productivity, prosperity and innovation in the modern economy; how and why 'place' matters in public policy; the relationship between science, technology and democracy; and the importance of well-being and public health as goals for policy-makers. The Research Associates will also conduct their own independent projects under the supervision of Professors Kenny and Coyle, and undertake various duties relating to the overall running of the Institute.
They will be required to engage with policy makers in the UK and beyond as well as academic experts.
The successful candidates should have (or be close to completing) a PhD in a field relevant to public policy and governance. They should provide evidence of potential for research and publication at the highest level and a good understanding of the policy process.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
