The MRC Cancer Unit (MRC CU) is a Cambridge University Department within the Hutchison/MRC Research Centre in Cambridge and situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. It provides an outstanding environment for cancer research, supporting some 10 research groups and ~150 experimental and computational scientists.
We are seeking to appoint Research Assistant to assist with the daily operations in the metabolomics facility within the MRC Cancer Unit.
The post-holder will run and analyse sample extracts derived from in-vitro and in-vivo experiments, as well as from clinical samples, using LC-MS platforms (Dionex U3000 coupled to Q Exactive mass spectrometers). This may entail running routine assays and cell culture; recording data especially in relation to clinical samples on a database; contributing to the production of research reports; making use of standard research techniques and methods; and analysis and interpretation of the results of research.
Having a solid background in biostatistics and familiarity with statistics software is an essential requirement for the successful candidate.
Applicants should hold a BSc or equivalent in biological or chemical sciences as well as the initiative and creativity to solve routine problems in relation to the research project.
This is a fixed term position for one year in the first instance.
