We are seeking a research nurse or midwife who wishes to gain experience in clinical research in the field of diabetes and obesity in pregnancy. We are running several exciting studies related to gestational diabetes and metabolism in pregnancy. The main role of the post-holder would be to assist in the set-up and implementation of a new study called DiGest - a dietary intervention in women with gestational diabetes. This study is funded by Diabetes UK and involves four centres within East Anglia.
You will be based at the Institute of Metabolic Science, Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, where you will join Dr Claire Meek's research team. This is a developing field within the Institute and is supported by excellent clinical and academic links with the Wolfson Department of Diabetes & Endocrinology and the Department of Obstetrics.
The ideal candidate would be a nurse or midwife with some experience of research in the field of midwifery, obstetrics or diabetes. Experience in multicentre clinical trials within a related field would be a distinct advantage. You will be responsible for the recruitment of participants, the accurate recording, extraction, checking and entry of clinical data onto bespoke databases, and will contribute to the co-ordination and monitoring of a number of research studies. You will require a high degree of attention to detail, good communication and organisational skills and be able to work independently. Experience of adult and infant anthropometry, placental tissue sampling and cord blood withdrawal would also be beneficial.
Funds are available for a full-time position but we also welcome applications from candidates who cannot work full-time due to other commitments. This post will require some regional travel. Midwives and adult, paediatric and dual trained nurses are encouraged to apply.
Proposed start date: as soon as possible.
