This is an opportunity for a manager with an interest in primary care cancer detection/diagnostic research to work with a world-leading group. In partnership with a similar post-holder in Exeter, you will play a significant role in managing CanTest, a five-year international collaboration for capacity building, education and research, funded by Cancer Research UK. The CanTest Collaborative is co-led between Cambridge and Exeter, and includes two other UK institutions, Leeds and UCL, and four international partners in Seattle, Houston (both USA), Aarhus (Denmark) and Melbourne (Australia).
In Cambridge, the post will be based in the Primary Care Unit, part of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care and the Institute of Public Health at the University of Cambridge. The Primary Care Unit is a member of the NIHR School for Primary Care Research. 93% of the 2014 REF scores were graded as 4/3, putting us at the forefront nationally in Public Health/Health Services/Primary Care.
All duties will be shared between the Cambridge Manager and the Exeter Manager, who will be jointly responsible for excellent and timely delivery of the CanTest aims; namely, to develop and deliver world-class primary care cancer research, and to establish and deliver an annual International School for Cancer Detection Research in Primary Care. They will work closely with both co-Directors (Walter, Cambridge and Hamilton, Exeter) as well as the CanTest Management Group (CMG), which will oversee all operational matters. In supporting the co-Director Walter (Faculty) the Cambridge manager will have responsibility for CanTest finances, faculty and the International School, and in supporting the co-Director Hamilton (Research) the Exeter manager will have responsibility for CanTest research,
The successful applicant will have responsibility for the strategic delivery of CanTest's objectives. To succeed in the role you will need experience in the research environment, ideally in a biomedical university setting. You will need strong management skills including demonstrable skills in project and financial planning. You must have high motivation and teamwork skills, and the personal qualities to work well with fellow professionals and experts in a multidisciplinary environment. You will have an honours degree or equivalent experience.
