Job Opportunities

Research Assistant/Associate (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position investigating non-equilibrium physics of homogeneous ultracold atomic gases at the Cavendish Laboratory (Department of Physics, University of Cambridge).

The successful candidate will join the research group Quantum Gases and Collective Phenomena (embedded in the larger Atomic, Mesoscopic and Optical Physics Group), led by Prof. Zoran Hadzibabic. The group's research focuses on experimental many-body physics, using ultracold atomic gases as a flexible experimental platform. The group's specialty is study of homogeneous atomic gases, and we are particularly interested in non-equilibrium physics of dynamically manipulated and/or strongly interacting gases.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a PhD in Physics, or a closely related field, and an excellent publication track record. Experience in experiments on atomic gases or a closely related system is essential.

Where the successful applicant does not yet have a PhD, he/she will normally be under-appointed as a Research Assistant in a Research Associate post (on the understanding that he/she will be appointed as a Research Associate upon successful completion of his/her PhD). Successful candidates who have not been awarded their PhD by the appointment date will be appointed as a Research Assistant at Grade 5 (£25,728 - £29,799 per annum). Upon award of the PhD the individual will be promoted to Research Associate, Grade 7 (£31,604 - £38,833 per annum).

Applications will be reviewed after the closing date of 1st August 2018, and interviews likely conducted in August and September 2018. The candidate would ideally start as soon as possible after 1st October 2018.

The post will be a fixed term appointment for 2 years in the first instance.
