Two Research Associates in Experimental Biological Physics (Fixed Term)


Applications are invited for two experimental postdoctoral positions in the group of Prof R E Goldstein to work in the area of population dynamics of marine microorganisms, supported by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Successful applicants will join the established and growing effort in biological physics within DAMTP. There are strong connections as well with related fields such as physics, biochemistry, and zoology. Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. He or she must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. He or she may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area. An allowance for research expenses is included in this position.

The successful candidates must have a PhD in the physical or biological sciences or related areas. The ideal candidates will have extensive experience in microscopy, micromanipulation, growth of microorganisms, and dynamical systems theory.

The positions are available for up to 2.5 years. The salary will be on the standard University scale in the range £31,604-£38,183 depending on previous research experience.
