The lab of Professor Magdalena Zernicka-Goetz (http://www.pdn.cam.ac.uk/zernickagoetzlab/) studies self-organisation and symmetry breaking processes using mammalian embryos and mouse and human stem cells as major model systems.
We are looking for a dedicated post-doctoral researcher to investigate mechanisms of self-organisation and pattern formation during early mammalian development. Recently the lab developed unique methods for studying mouse and human embryos and for building embryo-like structures from stem cells (Bedzhov and Zernicka-Goetz, Cell 2014; Harrison et al., Science 2017; Shahbazi et al, Nature, 2017). We now use these methods to allow us to study changes in architecture and stem cell potential as the embryo built itself.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in developmental or cell biology or biophysics (or about to be awarded a PhD). Following skills are important: High-resolution live embryo microscopy; Developmental and cell biology, Image analysis and model building.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
