We use cutting edge technologies to create authentic models of disease for study, and to gain novel biological insight.
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will expand the capability of our specialised Genome Editing team, allowing us to develop novel technologies and to deliver a broad spectrum of User-driven projects. You will aggressively drive the innovation and application of Genome Editing technologies in translational research. A key focus will be to establish and translate emerging or novel technologies to an in vivo setting, prototyping and working up new methodologies in vitro, and building upon our functional genomics capabilities.
Key areas of tech development will be:
- Molecular recording: deriving methods for encoding information into specific loci within living cells
- Highly parallel CRISPR SNV Knock-In
The Pre-Clinical Genome Editing team consists of three sub-teams: Genome Editing, Transgenics, and Pre-Clinical Therapeutics. You will complement the CRISPR capability of our Genome Editing and Transgenics teams, applying and developing novel technologies to model and interrogate the molecular basis of disease both in vitro and in vivo. You will work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative and innovative environment to support CRUK CI's mission.
This position would be ideally suited to an individual trained in basic science who desires to apply their skills in a clinically-relevant translational setting.
- Display leadership in the development of novel technologies that exploit CRISPR, and apply these to translational research
- Working collaboratively with the Pre-Clinical Genome Editing team and Users to design and execute strategies that will answer important biological questions
- Apply emerging CRISPR technologies to translational research, in vitro and in vivo
- A PhD or equivalent
- Demonstrable evidence of driving a research project in an autonomous fashion
- Expertise in dCas9-based approaches, base editing, or non-SpCas9 CRISPR systems
- Expertise in Cell Culture, Viral Vectors, Gibson assembly, recombineering
- Experience of Synthetic Biology and simple model organisms
- Experience with library screening and NGS highly desirable
- Statistical computation (eg R) fluency
- Ability to work independently and as part of a hard-working, motivated and enthusiastic team.
- Proactive and flexible, with a proven ability to perform under pressure.
- Excellent and effective communication skills are essential to this role.
Candidates may be required to occasionally work outside of normal working hours.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility of extension to 3 years.
