We are looking for a full-time Research Associate to manage essential operations in the Cambridge Blood and Stem Cell Biobank in the University of Cambridge, Department of Haematology based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
Established in 2009, the Cambridge Blood and Stem Cell Biobank is a core facility essential for research in the department of Haematology and beyond. The group is closely involved in clinical and research activities at Addenbrooke's and Rosie Hospitals, Cambridge, with pivotal role in translational research into Haematological disorders and stem cell biology. The biobank collects material from multiple sites recruiting patients across the UK, and is increasingly attracting research collaborations with investigators across the UK, Europe and the USA, alongside Cambridge-based research groups from the Biomedical Campus, Babraham and Sanger Institutes.
The successful candidate must hold a PhD in a relevant related subject and have (translational/clinical) research laboratory experience. They will have broad knowledge of haematology and/or oncology. They will be an excellent communicator with the ability to manage their own workloads, guide junior members of the group, and establish interactions with a broad range of professionals on the Campus. They will be meticulous with data handling and have an excellent understanding of data integrity management. Under the guidance of senior colleagues they will develop current biobank services, and plan and implement changes in data and quality management within the biobank, leading towards accreditation. They will be expected to assist in assessing and adopting national and international biobanking community best practice and standards most appropriate to our biobank. They may also provide guidance or contribute to the research programs of other researchers locally and elsewhere. Experience of biobanking for research, clinical diagnostic service delivery or clinical trials alongside knowledge of ethics and research governance would be an advantage.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2020 in the first instance.
