The Biointerface Group at the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge is looking for a Research Assistant/Associate to take part in an exciting project, to develop a state-of-the art functional fibre printing system. Our group is a multi-disciplinary group which has strong interest and expertise in developing organ-on-a-chip platforms and 3D bioprinting technology (see http://www.eng.cam.ac.uk/profiles/yysh2). We expect this project to have a strong impact on fundamental understanding in the electrohydrodynamic jetting mechanisms, extending to practical applications for building novel biointerface devices.
We are looking for candidates with physics, chemistry, engineering or relevant backgrounds to lead the effort in developing and building the functional fibre printing system. The post will also involve establishing analytical methods to characterise the fibre materials, and to study their interactions with biological matters. Depending on the applicant's experience, there is also potential for the post holder to manage research activities in the lab with considerable leadership responsibilities.
The successful candidate should have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD (or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, engineering or relevant discipline. They can have experience in one or more of the following areas: functional device material processing, instrumentation and control, printing technologies, and/or the development and application of advanced spectroscopy techniques. Knowledge in biomaterials and cell cultures are a plus but not essential. Candidates are expected to be good communicators, independent thinkers, and have the ability to bring out-of-the-box solutions to problems. They should be able to operate in a highly interdisciplinary environment involving cell biologists, biochemists, and medics.

Research Associate: £31,604 - £38,833
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
