CATS Chemical Biology Research Facilitator (Fixed Term)

An exceptional opportunity has been created for a proactive Senior Research Facilitator to join the Cambridge Academy of Therapeutic Sciences (CATS) team to drive new translational research opportunities, particularly around chemical biology and medicinal chemistry. The Academy aims to establish a platform for world-leading academic/industrial collaboration in the development of therapeutics drawing on the breadth of expertise across the University, and includes work programmes around research, education and policy.

Working under a new Institutional Translational Partnership Award (iTPA) from the Wellcome Trust, you will lead development and delivery of a work programme to increase engagement with and capabilities across the interface of chemistry and biomedicine as well as more broadly within the context of the wider vision and strategy of the overall Academy.

You will work in partnership with researchers across the University and in industry, to develop cross disciplinary and cross sector research networks and collaborations, planning and delivering events where relevant to bring researchers together to explore topics of mutual interest. You will actively seek funding opportunities and facilitate applications to funding schemes in this area, as well as mapping open compound collections and similar offers from the pharmaceutical industry and promoting and supporting access to them by our research community. You will also lead on scoping the need and potential for a larger initiative in chemical biology in the area of chemical probes at the University, with a view to facilitating a bid for new infrastructure/support to address these needs.

In order to achieve this you will need a proactive and creative approach with the ability to build strong relationships and networks. Understanding of current trends in the bioscience industry sector and its needs and drivers in relation to R&D is essential as well as the ability to spot and develop potential new opportunities.

We are seeking an outstanding individual, driven to work at the interface between academic and industrial research and unlock the potential that this offers. You will have a degree in a relevant subject with a PhD or equivalent experience, as well as experience of research and project management, preferably in an industry or University context. Excellent organisational and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
