A position exists, for Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the Social Networked Smart Infrastructure Assets project funded by Innovate UK. The project is a collaborative partnership with Redbite Solutions and North Hertfordshire Homes. The researcher will work with the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory (DIAL) at the Institute for Manufacturing. This project proposes a solution powered by the latest mobile digital technologies that will allow all parties with an interest in an asset to interact with the assets, update records and leave feedback all via the same system. The researcher will drive the development of data analytics and decision-support algorithms using input from end-users and other sources to compute a condition score and determine intervention actions and timing. The data must be interpreted and made useful to asset owners/managers. The project's focuses on the development of novel machine learning and sentiment analysis algorithms to interpret this data and convert that into actions that balances costs and risks to stakeholders. A critical aspect is to develop an algorithm that classifies users by "quality of input" to allow the system to give more "weight" to users that provide accurate information, thereby reducing risk of false alerts. In addition, the researcher will be expected to contribute to other research projects and activities within DIAL.
The post holder will be located in Institute for Manufacturing, 17 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The researcher's expertise will include data analytics, machine learning and maintenance optimisation. Appreciation and knowledge of the challenges in infrastructure and facilities management is desirable. The applicants will be expected to have obtained or is close to obtaining a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or relevant discipline.
