Applications are invited for the post of Departmental Safety Manager based at the Department of Engineering's main site in Trumpington Street.
Reporting to the Head of Building and Estates, you will act as the Departmental Safety Officer and provide advice and guidance on matters of health and safety, collaborating with senior academic staff, research and technical staff and students to find practical solutions to complex health and safety issues.
You will be responsible for directly line managing the Departmental Safety Coordinator, for overseeing the work of the Laser Safety Officer, the Biological Safety Officer and the Radiation Safety Officer and for coordinating circa 30 Local Safety Coordinators across six sites.
You will be educated to degree level in a relevant STEM discipline and hold a NEBOSH qualification in health and safety. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills with comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of risk management, health & safety technology, occupational health matters and safety law. Excellent organisational and management skills are also essential requirements for the role together with experience of training development and delivery. Experience of working in the higher education sector and implementing health and safety requirements within a research or scientific environment would be advantageous.
